The news that went through the media at the turn of the year 2020/21, about children in the refugee camp Moria having to fear being bitten by rats at night, shook the editor Lisa Höllebauer very much. Shock and inconceivability at the images that were all over the news were followed by the urge to act. Thankfully there were and are institutions and associations that help on the spot and immediately.

The desire to combine a passion for the contemporary German-language literature with a good cause, gave rise to the idea of collecting donations for refugees with the help of a book of stories. Over the past year, the authors Irene Diwiak, Katharina J. Ferner, Valerie Fritsch, Lisa Krusche, Lucia Leidenfrost, Martin Peichl, Benjamin Quaderer, Barbara Rieger, Stephan Roiss, Clemens J. Setz, Mercedes Spannagel and Barbara Zeman have agreed to provide a text for the story collection.

The anthology "Narrating against Poverty" has a limited edition of 300 copies and contains twelve different texts and approaches to the topic, which not only show what poverty means in all its facets, but also focus on the importance of storytelling as such.

All proceeds from sales will be donated to the aid project "Children on the Run" by SOS Children's Village. The donations will be used to provide children and young people who have fled to Austria with individual support in SOS Children's Village. German courses and psychological support are intended to make the start in the new country easier. More about the project at www.sos-kinderdorf.at.
