SEMI-OPEN EVENT

1.30 pm - 3 pm: Introduction (part 1: open to all impuls participants)

3.30 pm - 6 pm: hands on workshop (part 2: for selected impuls participants)
__
Ignaz Schick, the Berlin based sound artist and experimental turntablist, is offering a 4 hour intense workshop at the impuls Academy. The workshop comes in two parts:

A historical and technical introduction to basic techniques of experimental turntablism is open to all impuls participants interested. Hereby the focus is set on the turntables as an instrument rather than a DJ-tool.

In a second step with an also hands on approach (open only to selected participants with an already practical background in electro-acoustic music) further different topics covered will be, amongst others: specific important playing techniques, external vinyl manipulation and recordless turntablism. Hereby most of the time will be spent by playing and actually exploring the machine.

APPLY TO PARTICIPATE

1. You have to register and be accepted as participant for the impuls Academy 2025 first. Please preannounce your interest in this special program (subject: Experimental Turntablism) to the impuls office (office@impuls.cc) or already with your initial Academy registration, by hereby also mentioning, if you only want to join as a listener (Part 1 – first come, first serve), or if you want to apply as active participant (for both Part 1 and 2 – on selection).

2. In case you want to apply as active participant, please hand in a short information on your practical background in electro-acoustic music, and mention your personal experience with turntables and own turntable performances, if any. Deadline for handing in this information: November 30th, 2024 at the latest.

3. A maximum of 8 active participants will be accepted (notification will be given by January 2025 at the latest) and are asked to bring along two to three Vinyl LPs of their own choice, that might be used and possibly also be damaged during the workshop by scratching and trying out different techniques. For that purpose we recommend to bring along sound effect collections, percussion, vocal solo or electronic music Vinyls.

4. Depending on the progress of the Workshop and experience of participants, active participants might also be included in the Late Night Turntable Event with Ignaz Schick (thus all active participants interested in joining also at night are welcome to bring along further Vinyls, they would like to include in a possible performance).
