On March 13 at 8 PM, Forum Stadtpark hosts the premiere of Nick Acorne’s new piano performance, PIANOCUBING.
In this work, he reimagines the piano—not as an acoustic instrument, but as an artistic object. Five old grand pianos from the Pokorn family are transformed into a sculptural installation, forming a slippery piano cube. Having spent decades in a basement, these pianos developed their own distinct, detuned, and unpolished sonic characteristics—preserved intact by the artist in this new instrument to play an improvised music concert.
With PIANOCUBING, Nick Acorne delves into the deconstruction of piano sound. Detuned, distorted, and fractured tones trace the sonic erosion of objects left untouched for years—disintegrating over time into their own state of deconstruction and dissonance.
