Berndt Luef Ensemble & Jazztett Graz | FORUM STADTPARK

Founded by Berndt Luef at the end of 1993 for the performance of his composition "The Bosnian Tragedy", the ensemble has been one of the few continuously working larger groups in Graz since 1994 and has therefore been in existence for 30 years. The ensemble has built up a musical identity of its own, in whose music more is made audible than interesting sounds and technically refined cabinet pieces. "Correlations" (the title of one CD), i.e. interrelationships, are to be established not only between the musicians themselves, but also between the musicians and the audience.

In addition to very serious musical works, such as "Bosnian Tragedy" and "Tuzla", which deal with the Yugoslavian civil war, "The Refugees" with the ever-present refugee problem or "Epitaph" with the extermination of Jews during the Nazi regime, Berndt Luef also writes quite humorous pieces. A number of compositions deal with the impracticalities of the Graz public transport system ("Bus 63", "Station 9", "At St. Peter's") and the ÖBB ("Hoax"). Berndt Luef has compiled the 5-movement jazz suite "FoStaGra" from sketches of compositions that he wrote during many sessions during his time as music officer of the Forum Stadtpark.

On 27.07.2024, the Jazztett Forum Graz will present compositions by Berndt Luef at the Forum Stadtpark, which he wrote under the title "Sultry Nights", influenced by the texts of the Polish journalist and writer Ryszard Kapuzcinsky. The texts will be read by Martin Krusche.
