Die Genderpolizei (The Gender Police, 2024)
Those who denounce sexist behavior or call for gender-inclusive language are often insulted and have to listen to lines such as “Here come the gender police!” Some German and Austrian federal states have even issued bans on gender-inclusive language. Can one appropriate such insults for the purposes of parody? What if you could actually ask an organ of the state for help in case of a sexist incident? hannsjana have founded the Gender Police and, in a multimedia work, present its most important areas of operation in the fight against supposedly insignificant everyday sexism.

The artist collective hannsjana (founded in Berlin in 2011) creates performances, audio tours, and videos. They break with preconceived notions and deal with places and themes in a humorous, musical, and scholarly way to make them tangible and explainable to themselves and others. Their works have been shown at the Sophiensäle, Berlin, at the Luzerner Theater and at the inclusive Berlin theater Thikwa.
For the third year in a row, steirischer herbst turns to cabaret and its capacity for gritty, gutsy social criticism. Six performances present a mix of burlesque, street chanson, stand-up, and macabre poetry in the intimate setting of Forum Stadtpark’s basement.
