Thomas Podhostnik: Dear Mr. Saunders—Reading and Discussion on the First Slovenian Translation
With Thomas Podhostnik (author), Blaž Božič (translator), Adrian Kasnitz (publisher, parasitenpresse), and Primož Čučnik (moderator).
The first part of Dear Mr. Saunders will be published in April in a Slovenian translation by Blaž Božič Boško through LUD Šerpa. The translation was supported by TRADUKI. To mark the occasion, the author, translator, and publisher are embarking on a reading tour through Slovenia and Austria. The first part of the three-part epistolary novel will also be presented at Forum Stadtpark.
At the center of the novel is Sergej, the child of Slavic guest workers who grows up in Germany and cannot find a place in West German educational society. In three long letters to the American writer George Saunders, he writes about social background, exclusion, literature, and the search for his own voice. Dear Mr. Saunders explores questions of identity, privilege, and the power of language—combining a coming-of-age novel, a poetological essay, and a literary cry for help.
