Didi Kern is known, mainly as an accurate drummer of combos like Bulbul, Fuckhead, broken.heart.collecotor and Glutamat. But he has also made a name for himself in the noisy corner of impro and free jazz, especially with keyboard wizard Philipp Quehenberger (with whom he makes music for Franz West, among others). He is one of the few musicians who can easily keep up with international capacity musicians, and even sticks it to musical violent criminals like Peter Brötzmann, Weasel Walter, Mats Gustafsson and Ken Vandermark. He is also an avid DJ (Rokko).

The GIK is the Graz adaptation of the curated improvisation evenings at Celeste in Vienna, established since 2005 by Marco Eneidi, who died in 2016. Since January 2017, this series, which always takes place on the last Monday of the month, has established itself as a new hub for improvised, contemporary and experimental music in Graz, thanks to numerous illustrious guests and a highly diverse but cohesive field of musicians and audience.
The focus is on the social act of collective, musical real-time composition and its intrinsic risk practice. A particular strength of the GIK is the synergy of diverse stylistic practices and approaches while creating a benevolent environment for encounter and exchange. A broad network of participants and representatives with strong connections to KUG and the international independent scene confirm and consolidate the significance of this platform for genre-free sound experimentation.
